The murmur of butterflies

The Murmur Of Butterflies

This one surprised me—it started as a sibling to another piece, Forest Butterflies, but… the paint had its own ideas. And I’ve learned to trust that.

The surface has all these crackled textures—almost like the façade of a forgotten building, slowly reclaimed. But then, from that, these butterflies begin to emerge. They draw our eye, and they hover and rise across this dreamlike surface of textures and organic shapes, which feel like fragments of memory or ancient walls yielding to nature. The butterflies aren't just decorative—they’re a kind of soft defiance. The quiet insistence of life.

The palette here is muted—greens, charcoals, warm neutrals—so it integrates beautifully into refined spaces. But it’s the layering, I think, that gives it emotional depth.

I wanted it to feel intimate and expansive at once. A piece that rewards a longer look—and settles into a home like it’s always been there.
